Cooler temperatures, falling leaves, yard cleanup, and backyard fires are all part of autumn in Connoquenessing. But before you strike that match, the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company has a few reminders to help keep everyone safe! 🚒

🔥🍁 FALL BURNING SAFETY TIPS 🍁🔥

🍂 CHECK BEFORE YOU BURN
Know the local burning regulations and restrictions that apply to your property. Never burn during a burn ban or when conditions make outdoor burning unsafe.

💨 WATCH THE WIND
If it’s windy, DON’T BURN! A small fire can spread quickly when dry leaves, grass, and wind get involved.

🏠 KEEP YOUR DISTANCE
Keep fires a safe distance from homes, garages, sheds, vehicles, trees, power lines, and other combustible materials.

💧 HAVE WATER READY
Keep a garden hose, buckets of water, or another appropriate means of extinguishment nearby before lighting the fire.

👀 NEVER LEAVE A FIRE UNATTENDED
Someone should remain with the fire until it is COMPLETELY OUT. Never assume a pile of ashes is safe just because you can’t see flames.

🚫 DON’T BURN TRASH
Avoid burning plastics, tires, household garbage, construction materials, or other inappropriate materials.

🌲 CLEAR THE AREA
Dry leaves and grass can carry fire surprisingly fast. Create a clear area around your burn location before getting started.

🌙 OUT MEANS OUT!
When you're finished, thoroughly soak the fire, stir the ashes, and soak it again. Make sure everything is cool to the touch before walking away.

🚨 IF YOUR FIRE GETS OUT OF CONTROL — CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.
Don’t wait until a small problem becomes a big one.

🍁🔥 Remember: just because it’s cool outside doesn’t mean the fire danger disappears. Dry leaves, dead vegetation, low humidity, and wind can create perfect conditions for a fire to spread.

Enjoy the fall weather, enjoy the backyard fire, and enjoy cleaning up those approximately 47 million leaves that somehow landed in your yard overnight. 😂🍂
