| The ceremony will be held on August 28, 2006 at 4PM at the site of the new station located at 1212 Evans City Road. Community members, elected officials project partners, and supporters are invited to attend this special event as construction officially begins. Founded in 1935, the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company faithfully served the community for more than 90 years. While the current station has been home to generations of firefighters, the building – originally constructed in the early 1900s with an addition completed in the 1950s – no longer meets the operational needs of today’s fire and emergency services. The new station will provide modern facilities designed to improve firefighter safety, emergency response, training, and community service. Features will include additional apparatus bays to accommodate current and future emergency vehicles, dedicated decontaminations areas to reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful contaminants, expanded training space, improved equipment storage, and enhanced accommodations for volunteer personnel. “This groundbreaking represents much more than the start of construction,” said Matt McConnell, President. “It represents an investment in the safety of our firefighters and the protection of everyone who lives, works, and visits our community. This new station will ensure we can continue providing the highest level of emergency service for decades to come.” This project is being supported through a combination of community fundraising, grants, and other funding sources, including a $750,000 capital campaign that provides residents, businesses, and community partners and opportunity to invest in the future of local emergency services. “This project would not be possible without the tremendous support of our community,” said David Cotington, Treasurer. “Every contribution brings us one step closer to providing our firefighters with the facilities they need to serve safely and effectively.” Following the ceremonial groundbreaking, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the project, view site plans and renderings, and speak with department representatives about the vision for the new station.
